In this semi-regular post, I will share what I enjoy in life that you might also appreciate (or at least get to know me and my quirks better). In addition, I will share things to stir godliness in your life.
A Profound Message That Speaks to the Heart
Sometimes, God provides a way to speak to your heart in unexpected ways. Smith is not a preacher I normally listen to. Yet, I was blessed to find this gem of a sermon. Give it a listen for the good of your heart!

Jesus: The One Greater Than Solomon
This is a recent pick-up I'm reading. Knowing Jesus as the One Greater than Solomon (Matthew 12:421) is an aspect that I forget that Jesus called himself. This book has been a refreshing reminder
During my middle school years, I found the story of Solomon, who asked the Lord for wisdom over riches. (see 1 Kings 3:92) I prayed the same prayer and read Proverbs religiously. I wanted to be wise like Solomon. But as I read this book, I realize that in years of praying for myself to be made more like Jesus, together with years of praying for God’s wisdom (James 1:53), I’ve never actually prayed, “Father, make me wise like Jesus. Reveal to me Jesus’ wisdom in what he said and did.” That intentional pairing has been lost on me.
There’s a difference in attention with that prayer. I commend the book to you. I also encourage you to pray with me for wisdom like Jesus as you go on your way.

Matthew 12: 38-42:
Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” 39 But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
1 Kings 3: 3-9
Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places. 4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
James: 1:5-8
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
