“To be a great Christian, do the basics greatly.”
This is one of the admonishments that are easier said than done. Yet as I consider this principle over the years I may have been able to at least find its starting points.
Simply put,
It starts with loving God and others better. (Read Mark 12:30,31)
It starts with being wiser in thought, word, and conduct as the Word commands.
It starts with living for something bigger than my comfort, fame, and success.
It starts with not wasting the latter half of my life.
We all face lessons at various stages of our lives—it's not just during mid-life—that God gently nudges us to embrace. It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of information and feel that our goals and purposes are honorable. Yet, in the rush of daily life, we often forget to pause and reflect on our journey. It's okay to feel overwhelmed; taking a moment to slow down can help us connect with what truly matters in our lives.
To enhance our lives for the time we have left, we should focus on fulfilling God's purposes and channeling our energies into that pursuit. The four ideas mentioned above are rooted in biblical principles and are broad enough to include our passions, talents, and callings.
If we find ourselves at halftime in our lives, it is essential that we embrace the time the Lord has granted us and become faithful stewards of it. Our deliberate efforts to live out the Word are just as crucial as our passion for loving God deeply. By aligning our actions with our faith, we can truly honor Him with the gifts we have been given and make the most of this precious time.
